What better way to destroy the GOP than from within. Willard’s plan for years. The Democrats have no greater ally.
I think the Republican Party plan is to throw their weight behind Romney, cutting off early support for other candidates.
If they can prevent others from getting support, the field is automatically smaller, and the chances of a Tea Party/conservative candidate advancing is much smaller.
Romney may not win, and the Republican Party knows it, but he'll be well-financed and if it crushes the conservative wing of the party, it'll be worth it. The GOP doesn't like what it can't control.
Well said.
“”So, why didnt Mitt Romney run for a second term as governor of Massachusetts?
He would have lost. And, not just lost by a little. He would have been creamed.
Romney won his first term with about 49% of the vote. After 4 years in office he had a 30% approval rating30%.
You cant blame this on Romney being a Republican. Massachusetts, when it comes to electing governors, is friendly to Republicans. For 16 straight years Massachusetts elected nothing but Republican governors (Weld, Cellucci, Swift, and Romney).
Yet, it only took one Romney term to destroy this Republican popularity streak.””
