A feminist CEO attempted to create a feminist advertising campaign only to have other feminists slam her for misogyny.
Julie Sygiel, founder and CEO of the underwear company Dear Kate, invited top women in the technology field to model her newest line, named the Ada Collection after the world’s first female programmer, Ada Lovelace.
Sygiel’s advertisements included quotes from the women about their careers in the tech industry and showed them at work coding.
“I think a lot of traditional lingerie photo shoots depict women as simply standing there looking sexy, Sygiel said in an interview with Time. “They’re not always in a position of power and control.”
“In our photo shoots it’s important to portray women who are active and ambitious,” she continued.
But even though the women featured in the ad were excited to participate — using words such as “positive” and “inspiring” to describe their experience — some feminists have still lunged at the campaign for being misogynistic.
“Posing in your underwear undermines the message that you aim to be taken seriously as a technologist,” said Elissa Shevinsky, CEO of the startup Glimpse Labs

There's a local feminist in my area who always seems to get her letters to the editor and articles printed in the local rag. The photo they occasionally show of her depicts an unsmiling, miserable looking women..er.. womyn who has a grudge against the world. I had a co-worker who went to high school with the woman and said her personality was exactly like what she looked like in her photo.

One of their lines is called “queen size.” Women come in many body types. And a lot of queen size women would like to buy pretty under things.
I will agree, having one queen size woman amidst a bunch of gorgeous models makes that one queen size woman stand out. Few offices are staffed exclusively by pretty young things. In a normal office, there would be a more normal range of women by age and body type. In such a mix, a queen size women who has a friendly personality, who dresses well, and wears appropriate make-up can fit in. Having said these things, yes, some of us could lose a few pounds.
You need to be careful that your “affirmative action plan” doesn’t spotlight any one person. Tokenism might not be completely avoidable. But, in the end, we’d all like to be appreciated for the total person that we are.
