I dunno. I've been reading some history of the 1600s and 1700s, previous to the Victorian Age. Seems fornication, adultery, and bastardy were just as bad as it is now, outside of extremely religious communities like the Puritans. Of course, back then it was expected that men would wench and carouse, so...*shrug* It's only after the imposition of Victorian values that all that went underground, though it was still prevalent amongst the lower classes.
Perhaps we should re-promote Victorianism as the way to go. Food for thought.
