Recently, a friend lamented that the liberal left is destroying America, but I disagreed. The left is consistent and transparent in its belief that big government, higher taxes and more regulation serve the greater good. The right espouses a limited government platform of lower taxes, less spending and less regulation, which frees capital resulting in innovation and job creation. But do Georgia Republicans practice what they preach
Georgias fiscal year 2014 results illustrate the reality vs. the rhetoric. Our revenue jumped $879 million over fiscal year 2013; but $473 million of this increase resulted from the new way cars are taxed. Elimination of the so-called birthday tax made headlines, but Gov. Nathan Deal never touted the reality of his new ad valorem vehicle tax, Georgias second largest tax increase in 20 years. Why? He needed more tax revenue to support the $3.5 billion spending increase he has approved since taking office in 2011.
Responsibility for the largest tax increase in the last two decades also resides with Republicans. In 2009, Gov. Sonny Perdue and the Republican controlled legislature repealed the Homeowners Tax Relief Grant. This decision impacted middle and low income Georgia homeowners disproportionately.
After 12 years of Republican rule, Georgians' taxes are higher and state spending is higher.

The Republicans only cut spending when they were forced to by the recession, and as soon as tax revenues started going back up they started increasing spending again.
The mistake here is equating “the right” with “Republicans”.
That is why I hate Republicans MORE than Democrats. Vote Democrat, you know what you will get. Vote Republican and you get what? You have no idea what you will get, but you can be pretty sure you won’t like it.
This is why people stay home on election day. It’s hard to get motivated when your choices are very bad vs. awful.
Neil Boortz said that Zell Miller was the best Republican governor that Georgia ever had. I agree :).
GA FReeper ping.
I voted for Pennington in the primary. I hope you did too.
Get to work ousting the GOPes.
Republicans may be Georgia’s problem but Democrats are the NATION’s problem
Please stop, o those on the right, criticizing Obama with evermore blinding glimpses of the obvious on the left, which we cannot do a damn thing about.
Problem is in our house.
We're a-fixin' to win in 10 weeks. What are we gonna do with it?
Black and Jewish voters would beg to differ.
Democrats are totalitarian thugs. That’s how they’re destroying the country. The fact democrats want to act like ‘big shots’ giving away other people’s money is only a small part of the problem.
Deal is not a great Governor. I voted against him in the Primaries, but I’ll vote for him versus Carter, Jr.
We really needed someone to replace him.
Fixed it.
It has been my experience that most republican politicians do not.
"We expand government at a slower rate than democrats" is not the most inspirational of messages for a freedom-loving conservative to hear.
So says a Cleveland Browns fan. :-)
Not a dime’s worth of difference.
Third Party?!?? Try getting a second party, first.
Georgia has a RINO problem, Time to go Rino hunting.
Democrats are just consistently bad to evil, which from our point of view looks very much the same.
Republicans make us feel worse because they lie to us and do evil things even as they promus to be good.
They are all lying scheming power hunger politicians, the only thing we can do is try to primary them to the extent our electoral system is still honest.
Just got to remember voting for a Democrat your garrenteed to get a very evil result, Vote for a Republican you got a chance at something good, even if its not always a good chance.
Exactly. We are very short on candidates who vow to leave people the hell alone - and when one emerges, he usually gets shouted down as some kind of libertarian heretic.
We voted for Pennington. He would have geen a good Governor.
I’ve seen it happen, more or less, at the county level.
