British diplomats in Washington are apologizing for Twitter posts that made light of the 200th anniversary of their troops torching the White House in the War of 1812.Nothing at all to apologize for. I know exactly how you feel.

It’s funny. If Americans are upset that the least 2nd world country in Europe is joking about an event over two hundred years old that turned out to be nothing, then we’re the goofs.

The now-defunct Canadian national anthem, “The Maple Leaf Forever,” talked about how the British Canadians (Canada was still a British colony) defeated the nasty Americans in battles during the War of 1812, and the US national anthem talks about how we kept the nasty British from defeating us in a battle during the War of 1812.

I wasn’t offended by it. Its just typical British humor like when I thank them for their generous gift of America.

I would have liked to have seen photos of the first white house. Since it was burned before photography, we have nothing but drawings of it. Sad loss and arson is not nice.

I thought it was funny too.

I remember joking with my Brit in-laws who were thoroughly unaware of the incident. They were a tad embarrassed.

Someone should have just replied with the story Lincoln used to tell, as depicted in the recent film starring Daniel Day Lewis, about the time Ethan Allen was in England attending a lavish dinner at a lord's estate. Mid-dinner he had to visit the privy and found that inside hung a portrait of George Washington. He finished his business and went back to the dinner, not saying a word about what he'd seen.
After some time the host couldn't help himself and asked Allen if he noticed the portrait. He replied that he had. Well, what did Allen think of the location? He replied that he thought it was entirely appropriate. Shocked, the host asked why. "Because nothing will make an Englishman s#$% faster than the sight of George Washington.
Lewis' next line in the film was "I love that story". So do I. People need to lighten up and get a sense of humor.

” “the anniversary of burning of the White House with a BBQ.
I know someone that almost had the same thing happen. His grill was too close to the house; melted the vinyl siding.
First time I knew the was what happened 200 years ago.

I remember that story-very funny!

A little tweaking. Using sparklers makes clear it’s just being silly.
