Wow is this interesting.
Years ago, when listening to one of Art Bell’s call in shows about UFO’s (credibility sinking here, but hold on) a guy called in who was stationed on a Navy ship. One of those big ones.
He said the men on top of the ship with him and he all saw a light far off, deep down in the sea. It came up and out of the water and rose up into the night sky.
His Commanding officer called the ones who saw it in, spoke to them and told them never to speak of it, ever, to anyone. To forget what they saw and not to inquire further about it.
He felt, now it was years later and he was anonymous on a radio that would be alright.
Bill Cooper recounted something like that in Behold a Pale Horse I believe. I’ll check it out when I get home.
There are books about “happenings” under the sea like this. My father used to read them all and was fascinated.
I think the ship was the aircraft carrier Franklin D Roosevelt.
I was deployed to the Western Pacific with the US Third Fleet in 1981 when the guys in CIC tracked multiple objects over the Pacific for 12 hours - objects were moving at an estimated Mach 9 and above - converging into one object, splitting off again, making right angle turns at unbelievable speeds, diving, climbing - something was out there that night.
Rather sounds like the one Christopher Columbus wrote about.
Everyone hears of such stories of seeing something but then told to shut-up.
Decades of service here, we ALL hear those stories but we never put any stock in them and never met anyone that was told to shut up. . .and those that we did meet that claim that, they did so with a little glint of humor in their eye. . .just to see who’s gonna buy their spiel.
You ever try to keep a group of young enlistee’s quiet?
Heck, their rumor-mill/gossip factory is far more prolific than any knitting club.
I saw ‘something’ one time, while flying, and instead of the usual “I didn’t see anything, did you?,” “’Nope, I didn’t see anything either” stuff you see in hollywood, we landed and told EVERYONE we could find about what we saw. We were never told to shut-up or keep quiet.
“Reading the Enemy’s Mind” by Paul H Smith, that is where my sighting is written about.
