Scott Brown, the Republican Senate candidate in New Hampshire who has struggled to gain traction against his opponent Jeanne Shaheen, is within two points of the incumbent Democrat in a new poll from WMUR and the University of New Hampshire. The poll shows Shaheen with 46 percent support and Brown, the former GOP senator from Massachusetts, with 44 percent. The previous WMUR-UNH poll, from June, showed Shaheen with a 12-point lead over Brown, 52 percent to 40 percent.
After Hitting Shaheen on Immigration, Brown Closes Gap in New Hampshire
This is the closest poll of the race since January, with most giving Shaheen a comfortable lead. Even with the latest WMUR poll, the Democrat still has a 6.6-point average lead. The only other poll in recent months to show Brown within single digits was an NBC News poll giving Shaheen an 8-point advantage.
If the race is indeed tightening as the latest poll suggests, what could explain Shaheen's drop? Brown, despite having national name recognition and having represented New Hampshire's next-door neighbor in the Senate, may have been hurt early on by charges of carpetbaggery. While Brown did own a home in New Hampshire for years, Shaheen is something of a Granite State political institution, having served three two-year terms as its governor. Brown has spent the summer quietly meeting with voters across the state to establish his New Hampshire bona fides, and he's all but locked up the Republican nomination.
But Brown has also focused heavily on the issue of illegal immigration in television advertisements over the past few weeks, first highlighting security differences between the airport and the southern border, then hitting Shaheen more directly over her position on the Gang of 8 immigration bill, supported by President Obama. Shaheen, along with every other Democratic senator, voted for the Gang of 8 bill.
"Want to know why there's lawlessness on our border? Ask Senator Shaheen," said Brown in a 15-second TV ad that shows Shaheen and Obama standing together. "She voted against border security twice and for amnesty."
Brown's ads tying Shaheen to Obama's immigration policy may have been good politics. A recent national poll found Americans give Obama lower marks on immigration than his job generally, and 39 percent say they consider immigration one of their top three issues.
$$$
He is not going to win the primary... the media and democrats want him to win...
Shaheen is an Arabic name. Enough!
Brown better damn well mean it. Enough of this ‘talk conservative’ to win the election, then join with the “gang of whatever” to oppose the American People on Amnesty, becoming a New England turncoat.
Yeah, it's SOP for the Big Government Republican crowd. They know the base wants conservatives, so—as much as they might regret it—they have to have the election year metamorphosis from squish to conservative (think McConnell, Alexander, McCain, et al.).
No matter what those political ads he has produced say, there is no way I can believe Scott Brown is against amnesty. At best he is pulling a Marco Rubio, pretend to be anti-amnesty while running, but when you get into office proclaim a change of heart and go amnesty full bore while saying it isn’t really amnesty.
RINOs like Rubio can win elections that way, but they’ve sold their souls.
Yep... Brown is just saying anything to get elected...just like Ayotte...
And to set some teeth on fire here.... we in NH, ended up with Ayotte the Juan McPain water carrier because of SARAH PALIN endorsing ovaries instead of Ovide the true conservative in the Primary back a few years ago...
I take Palin and her girl power cr@p with a grain of salt..Thanks Sarah... Smelly Ayotte has just been a RINO knife planter in the backs of conservatives Senator.
FYI...
Kelly Ayotte will officiate wedding for Scott Browns daughter
UPDATED 6:04 PM EDT Jul 10, 2014
Brown is already hooked up with Ayotte!
Brown has been strong on immigration forever. He’s not new to the issue. Ayotte is a fraud. I’ll take Brown. Not thrilled, but it is what it is.
“Ovide the true conservative in the Primary back a few years ago...”
I did not follow that race closely but from what I remember it also appeared to me Ovide was the conservative choice. Ayotte has certainly been a major disappointment.
Brown, if elected, won’t be a sealed book. We know he is wishy-washy. Might he renege on a commitment to stand tough on amnesty and the border? Of course, Juan McPain did just that.
NumbersUSA gives Ayotte a C- and gives Brown a D+. Shaheen gets an F.
Obviously, none of these people are in the Jeff Sessions/Steve King range.
Why doesnt the gop get it that we want an alternative to demoRats.

And that if they have an Amnesty candidate, as many, or more, Republicans will stay home on Election Day like they did in protest to Romney being the nominee in 2012, giving Hillary or Warren, or whomever they nominate, the needed edge to waltz to the Oval Office. If angry Conservatives, who stayed home in 2012, would have turned out and voted, Obama would have been in Chicago for the last 2 years.
Does anybody know how Senator Thunder Thighs in LA voted on the Gang of 8 legislation? Did she go with Obama and Amnesty? If so, that (along with ObamaCare) should sink her this go ‘round. If Maness and Cassidy both, will get on that horse and ride it all the way to Nov. 4..... hell, they may be the two top vote getters in the Jungle Primary on Nov 4. For real. I live in Texas, but I can almost throw a rock from my house into LA and I know how those folks are; bedrock Conservative. If it wasn’t for New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Landrieu would have been gone long ago. But, this is a “low-voter” turnout Mid-Term election and Obama is not on the ballot, so, anything is possible.

Why is Brown vulnerable to the “carpetbagger argument?”
Jeanne Shaheen is from bleeping Missouri!
Maybe she’s vulnerable to it, too. I’m not from NH, and don’t know how long she’s been there.
Brown looks like he left MA because it’s tough for a Republican candidate to get elected there. And it is, even for a squishy liberal Republican.
Ruben or Bob Smith would be way better than Scoot “ the poop” Brown -D Carpetbagger from MA.
I am completely baffled why a ton of folks on FR think Poop Brown is ok? He is a complete elitist Demoncrat from mAss that will make Juan Mc Pain look normal. He is Pro Gun control, pro abortion and already has shown he voted with the Demoncrats more than the Republicant’s. He will make Kelly Ayotte look good....
“He will make Kelly Ayotte look good....”
I agree the choices are not good. Too bad a conservative didn’t get the nomination.
The choices are: 1) Shaheen, 2) Brown, 3) write in, and 4) don’t vote?
What are you planning to do?
first step is make sure Brown -D Carpet bagger from mASS does not win on 09 Sept!
What about you SharpTurn? What are you going to do?
“What about you SharpTurn? What are you going to do?”
Watch with interest from afar.
Do me and the rest of NH a favor and stop putting up Brown -D Carpetbagger from mAss as an option!
He is a demoncrat, pro abortion, pro gay, pro gun control, Lawyer from mAss....
Pick a Conservative and help them out From AFAR if you are going to do anything!
