It's almost time for the Friday Night Huddle, and the best high school teams in the region are gearing up for kickoff. News 5 found a special player in Chilhowie, who is breaking barriers and a few face masks.
Rachel Poston spends an hour each day in U.S. History with the school's head football coach, but it's what she is doing outside of that classroom that's making history -- she's the first female to earn a starting position on the Warriors' special team....

She will be keyed on big time.....
Anybody notice the logo on the side of the building?
I just hope she is not injured severely. As much as I love football, it is a very dangerous game.
History? B.S.
A co-worker’s daughter was place kicker for her team - 20 years ago.
I hate hyperbolic headlines.
No, missed it. What was the logo?
The school mascot is a Warrior, and the logo is an Indian, much like the Redskins’ logo.
Heck, with all the new rules protecting the quarterback, and anti-concussion rules, I’m beginning to wonder if any of them will be allowed to play football.
My solution: bring back the leather helmets.
“I just hope she is not injured severely. As much as I love football, it is a very dangerous game.”
So is swimming, riding bicycles and skateboards (leading causes of death and injury amount adolescence). Maybe she should just stay home and play video games all day.
Well...having played football from the 4th grade through 12th grade and coached football for nine years I can tell you one fact: A good coach would tell his players that she isn’t a girl, she has a number on her jersey just like they do — she is a football player and they had better GD well treat her as if she had a twig and berries and hit her as hard as they would hit any other football player or they will lose any and all credibility on their football team and life in the locker room will be intolerable if she gets the better of any male on the opposing team. You DO NOT want to be the guy that got beat by a girl on the football field.
“She bench presses 200 pounds, squats 300 pounds, and dead lifts 315 pounds. That’s pretty impressive,” [coach] Robinson added.”
Less than I did in HS and I was a runt compared most of the team.
Put that on a resume, braid her armpit hair, and she’s a shoo-in at Sarah Lawrence.
When I lived in Maryland, there was a girl whose parents managed to make the school allow their daughter to play football over much objection. Not sur,e if they sued or just threatened to. She was seriously injured then they sued the school saying that they were not told that she could be injured.

But, with her as catcher, they won state in their class in baseball (no girls softball then)!
It sounds like the parents had a terminal case of stupid. Women can't play the game the way the men do. As an example, (being as I am a hockey fan, first and foremost) in 2006, the US women's Olympic hockey team played the Warroad, Minn (population about 1,500) boys high school team, and lost.
My Mom’s entry under her high school yearbook photo was “Female Babe Ruth”
Yeah everybody makes history. It is just that all of it is not written down.
