Just destroy the oil fields(all of them) It will take a couple decades to recover and in the meantime our oil will be worth so much more and we’ll transition to natural gas and other alternative fuels. Sound crazy?

Yes, insane, unreasonable, stupid, idiotic, foolish and so on.

WHY destroy God's gifts to us?

BTW, natural gas comes from those petroleum fields that you would destroy. Natural gas ALWAYS comes up with the petroleum.
ARAMCO, the Arabian American Oil Company used to BURN OFF the natural gas. Saudi Arabia looked like a Christmas tree at night from the sky.
Smarter heads finally prevailed and the natural gas was CAPTURED and ... liquified. Saudi Arabia has some the the LARGEST LNG (liquified natural gas) plants on the planet.

Also, in 1982 the Saudi king bought out all the oil and gas rights from ARAMCO so now the Saudis own their own resources again. They had sold them to ARAMCO in the 1920's.

Also WHAT "what alternative fuels? Coal? Blueberries?
Coal is a filthy fuel and would make the world sick.

I don't think you have a full grasp of the petroleum business. There's no reason why you should.
We lived over there for five years and learned something about the "awl bidness" (Texas pronunciation).
My husband worked in the LNG business as California itself had some extensive gas fields for a while in central California. He was a mechanical engineer (They can do anything.) and he applied for and got the job with the gas business IN the KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
The rest is history.
