".......Some residents and community leaders contend St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch has deep ties to the police and has favored law enforcement in criminal cases.
Missouri State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed launched a petition that now has more than 26,000 signatures to remove McCulloch from the case and replace him with a special prosecutor to handle any criminal case arising from the August 9 shooting of Brown, an African-American who was unarmed when killed by a white police officer......
.....The officer "should be charged and arrested. It's been over a week now," Patricia Bynes, the Democratic Party committeewoman for Ferguson Township, told CNN. We are "motivated to have a transparent case that's accountable to the community and to make sure justice is done at every level," Bynes said.
Bynes said McCulloch's ties with police in the county could cloud his judgment.
McCulloch's father was a police officer and was killed on the job in 1964 by an African-American man, when McCulloch was 12, Magee confirmed to CNN. In addition to his father, McCulloch's brother, an uncle and a cousin all served with the St. Louis Police Department, and his mother worked as a clerk at the department, Magee said.
McCulloch, who as a teenager lost a leg to cancer, made it his career ambition to become a prosecutor. He was quoted by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as telling a reporter, while first campaigning for the office: "I couldn't become a policeman, so being county prosecutor is the next best thing."..........

Nixon made the comment in a videotaped statement in which he said he would not remove St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch from the case despite the demands of some black leaders who believe that McCulloch's deep family ties to law enforcement would affect his impartiality. McCullouch's father, mother, brother, uncle and cousin all worked for the St. Louis Police Department, and his father was killed while responding to a call involving a black suspect.
In his statement, Nixon cited what he called the "well-established process" by which prosecutors can recuse themselves from pending investigations to make way for a special prosecutor. Departing from that process, Nixon said in a statement, "could unnecessarily inject legal uncertainty into this matter and potentially jeopardize the prosecution."
"We have a responsibility," Nixon said, "to come together, and do everything we can to achieve justice for [Brown's] family." Nixon added that McCulloch and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder had an obligation "to achieve justice in the shooting death of Michael Brown must be carried out thoroughly, promptly, and correctly."
"It's really heartbreaking to see a man elected to an office that high in our state government ... come out with a statement like that, that does prejudge the case," Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder told Fox News' Shepard Smith late Tuesday. "It would be wrong for a prosecutor to say what the governor has said here tonight and it's wrong for the governor of Missouri to have said it."
Nixon and McCulloch are Democrats, while Kinder is a Republican. Under Missouri law, the governor and lieutenant governor are elected separately.............."

I don’t know about McCulloch, he’s a democrat. I expect that he’ll recuse himself. Gov. Nixon wants it to look like they have diligently followed the rules process.
But Nixon has already tainted the grand jury.
No - they really want vengeance!
Isn’t Nixon a Democrat?
The statements in this article are straight out of any Nazi or handbook. The prosecutor is suspect because his dad was murdered and because he dares to like the police.
When is anyone going to stand up to these people?
yes, but the press is going out their way to avoid mentioning that this is pretty much an all-Democrat cast from the statehouse down to the street no matter which side of the police line you look at...And if they could have linked the cop to the tea party we’d already know about it by now.
Yes. Both Nixon and McCulloch are democrats.
Lt. Gov Kinder is a republican.
Post #1:
“....Nixon and McCulloch are Democrats, while Kinder is a Republican. Under Missouri law, the governor and lieutenant governor are elected separately....”
Is the Lieutenant Governor’s office powerful there, as in Texas and Mississippi, or weak like Iowa?
They quote him partially... did he elaborate on who the prosecution must be aimed or is everyone just assuming? I’ve never seen a complete quote, and so far the only one clearly in violation of the law was the accomplice who is probably facing some extreme choices now wondering if he is going to get what he deserves or if he is going to get off because of PC. It’s just weird that in every report it’s just a snippet.
“replace him with a special prosecutor”
Translation:
“replace the racist white prosecutor with a racist black prosecutor”
I don’t know. Good question.
Slate: Can Anyone Fix the Ferguson Police Department? It needs to be overhauled. It takes time, but it can be done.
"President Obama on Monday announced that he will send Attorney General Eric Holder to Ferguson, Missouri. Americas top law enforcement official will meet with FBI agents conducting the civil rights investigation into the death of Michael Brown, the unarmed, black 18-year-old who was shot and killed by a white police officer a little more than a week ago. The investigation into Browns deathwhich will include a federal autopsy of his bodyis expected to take some time. But its end will likely only mark the beginning of a larger probe into the Ferguson Police Department, which has seemingly gone out of its way to stoke protesters anger by refusing to clarify the circumstances of the shooting, and by greeting the originally peaceful protests with military-grade riot gear."
Any meaningful reconciliation to the chaos and conflict provoked by this episode will have to include reform of the Ferguson Police Department. But how could that be done? How do you fix a police department that has proven it cant police itself?
If Holder concludes that there has been a pattern of misconduct by the policeeither in the lead-up to Browns death or in its aftermaththe president has the ability to force widespread reforms within the department with the help of a law passed in the wake of the Rodney King beating. The provision in question, part of what was officially known as the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, is one of the most significant pieces of civil rights legislation passed in the latter part of 20th century, and also one of the most overlooked, according to Joe Domanick, the associate director of the John Jay College of Criminal Justices Center on Media, Crime, and Justice. The law gives the federal government two options: It can either formally pursue a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Ferguson Police Department by alleging a pattern and practice of misconduct or the administration and city officials can enter into what is known as a consent decree that would mandate a specific set of reforms that would then be overseen by an independent court-appointed monitor. Faced with the possibility of a costly court battle, most cities have historically taken the path of least resistance and signed on the decrees dotted lines. Ferguson officials probably wouldnt buck that trend............."
Just more crap from the piss-stream media.
No one wants to see a man... er, giant killed, but the media is beating a drum for Holder and the out-and-out framing of, what I can tell, is a good cop. Hope the cop's lawyer and union don't hold back.
Oh, for a simpler, saner time in America.
I think we know what Holder’s predetermined conclusion will be.
Nabila Nasheed. Looks like the “Taliban is in the building” applies here too.
It’s a test case for taking over police departments nation wide, in other words.
Nice to see someone in Missouri recognize is being an Obama hack.
No coffee yet this morning....meant to say “recognize NIXON is being an Obama hack!”
