Race relations weren’t doing that badly until Mr. Obama happened to them. There’s nothing like an administration of radicals who’ll happily side with Black Panthers over law-abiding voters to lend an uncomfortable edge to how people get along. It’d be the same if a brunette took the presidency and started supporting brown hair supremacy groups. Blondes would start looking at people with brown hair suspiciously, wondering if they supported the policies, too.

Actually, considering black-white race relations were by far the most centrally engineered and intentionally worked on by government, they were AMAZINGLY good. Notice that the groups that are generally successful and increasingly grouped in with “white”... Italians, Irish, and increasingly, Asians... are the groups the federal government more or less ignored, if it didn’t openly discriminate. They worked their way up. Faced with a lot to prove (or disprove), a few among them found a way to excel, and in turn lifted everyone up.

Blacks, and to a lesser extent, Hispanics too, were never really given that chance. Instead the government outlawed discriminating against them. It’s understandable, in the circumstances. It seemed like a NICE thing to do. Was it the RIGHT thing to do? I don’t know. But we still, at the price of pop culture getting really, really stupid through the 80s and 90s, emerged from the relative turbulence of the 70s into a world where it seemed people were figuring it out. We still had to deal with a lot of PC and affirmative action social engineering, but since a lot of the black culture people were focusing on was illegal and underground, we managed to kind of edge, crabwise, past that fact. It really looked to me like we were on the mend.

What the country DIDN’T need was a bunch of meddling racists in the government treating melanin concentration like it was a side in partisan politics.

It also would have been a bonus if our first black president hadn’t been a bumbling incompetent Euro-weenie with a tan. Secretary Kerry is basically a bumbling incompetent Euro-weenie, too. Do voters think the John Kerry presidency would have sucked ONLY because he can’t tan without looking like he’s a man-pumpkin? My consistent impression of Mr. Obama is that he’s the black president the white supremacists would have voted for, to prove a point.

the government policies towards blacks were never implemented to genuinely help them. the democrats who created those policies did so to enslave them to the democrats and their dependency policies they said would make them independent and help them. the dems knew it would destroy the black family and pit black men against black women, and also increase abortion rates of black women. that is what they really wanted.
