I believe that in my lifetime the US will balkanize. Roughly half the people want a leftist controlled country and they are too dependent or too complicit to ever change. They grow in number and likely cannot be defeated electorally in the long run. Given that bleak assessment there are still millions of people who want to live in a free society. Eventually these two peoples will no longer be able to coexist under the same political system.

“Eventually these two peoples will no longer be able to coexist under the same political system.”

Just look at the conflict we have right here in California. On a land area basis, California is Conservative. But the votes are in the Liberal bastions of SF and LA, so the other areas are disenfranchised and the initial moves to divide the state are starting, ditto for Colorado, and my guess is that there are other states in the same frame of mind. The problem will come in the “equitable division” of the real estate, because the Conservative areas of California have all the natural resources. The “city $hit” will not want to give up those areas without a fight. So your idea of “Balkanization” has a lot of merit. Sadly it may not be a peaceful process.
