Most M16 stamped receivers definately are machine guns, specifically/technically, "SELECT FIRE", true assult rifles.

I have three (3) of them on ATF form 3s.

There are even full-auto AR-15s from the factory for LEO.

MOST (99%+) AR-15s are full auto unless converted prior to May 19, 1986, or mfg after that from an 07/10 FFL with a Class 2 SOT.
