Oh God help us. I read about it; it was part of the biography of Josephine Bonaparte (it was then called Martinique) and it was vicious.

Those French planters made the mistake of being a weak minority in Martinique. Many of the ones who could bug out ended up in Louisiana (then the nearest French outpost). The slaves the French brought from Martinique before all Hell broke loose there were primarily responsible for New Orleans' "voodoo" folklore.

A similar revolt can only get so far here, they don't have the numbers to sustain it.
