Here's what worries me at the moment, Doc. In the Fall election, the non-Democrats have a real shot at carrying both Houses.

OK. So what happens then? What happens to Boehner? McConnell, Reid, Graham? ... is it going to be a typical 'Republican' Congress, with business as usual, and the real structural reforms needed to be ignored again?

The current Depression looks like it will take until the mid 20's to finally go away. Will we be a centralized Socialist state by then?

Agreed. We're not there yet. I believe the fight to make the Republican Party truly conservative will only happen in increments. If you look at who we were VERY willing to put up with in 1980 (Weicker, Lugar, Heinz, Packwood, Kassebaum, Percy, Big Jim Thompson, Michel, Howard Baker, etc.), progress has been made. The SS RINO is taking on water, and when it capsizes, it will be very sudden. Think of party switches in both directions when there was benefit to be had (Boll Weevils under Reagan, Jeffords and Spectre later with the Senate majority in the balance). When we have enough clout, we will have good guys doing the right thing, and fear of voter/good guy retribution keeping the opportunists and sociopaths in line.

Even if Lamar Alexander started spouting the principles of the Constitution Party with real plans, it doesn't matter. He's still Lamar Alexander. When George Lyin' Ryan ran for Governor against Pro-Life/Pro-gun Dem Poshard he lied to the Pro-lifers who are generally inclined to vote Republican if given enough reason. It made the difference in the election, and Ryan went on to veto an anti-partial birth abortion bill. Even after he was elected, he pushed for doubling the car registration fee to fund $12 billion in road work, with the tolls removed as comepensation. Well, two out of three weren't bad. Ultimately, NEW tolls (at double cost) were built for the new iPass setup.
