Jan Brewer steps up her involvement in Arizona's GOP primaries

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is getting more active in Republican primary races as the August 26 election day approaches.

Brewer will hold a fundraiser for Mark Brnovich tonight at a restaurant at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa.

Brnovich — the former state gaming director — is challenging embattled Attorney General Tom Horne in the Republican primary.

The outgoing governor has also endorsed former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith in the gubernatorial primary, and her camp and political groups are also lending help to Republican lawmakers who backed her Medicaid expansion last year.

Part of that effort involves getting more moderates and independent voters to the polls.

Brewer signed the popular SB1070 law with overwhelming public pressure. She was never conservative. She just signed one good bill.

Agree. She has been annoying on some issues but in my opinion she has, overall, done a decent job from a policy standpoint.

She has been mediocre at best. Just barely adequate, but she hasn’t done anything on the border issue other than talk, and has done nothing that takes any political courage.

Brnovich — the former state gaming director — is challenging embattled Attorney General Tom Horne in the Republican primary.

So a sitting Governor is backing a challenger to a sitting Attorney General of her own party.

What did Horne do to her?

She wants her legacy to be that she increased Medicaid enrollment, so the next person to fill the role of governor, better not roll that back.

She really liked promoting tax increases. She has a thing for increasing the size of goverment.

Her big break came when Greta yanked her onto her show. Lucky break all that air time. Greta is doing that again with Marta McSally, who was on her show tonight. McSally has a big war chest to run for representative. But she is AWOL at the local republican meet and greets. In her ad she sounds like an airhead. But with Greta giving her a platform, she may smoke Kwazman and Wooten, who unlike her, are conservatives.

My telling thing is that when we were getting a grassroots movement to stop them from mothballing the A10, she did not lend her voice at all...until tonight, when Greta has her as an expert on air support.

I met a lot of the candidates for governor four years ago, but I don’t think Brewer ever came to Tucson to campaign. I guess she thought that town was blue enough to give her a win.
