'This Is Not Open For Discussion' — Massive SWAT Team Tells Peaceful Protesters In Ferguson To Leave

A large police SWAT team showed up to a peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri and the scene is getting increasingly tense, reports Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly, who is currently on the ground.

Soon after the team of more than 70 officers came on the scene, they told protesters they needed to leave the area and that "this [was] not open for discussion," Reilly tweeted. MSNBC reporter Trymain Lee tweeted that police told the crowd, "Go home, return to your vehicles. The protesters responded, "Mike can't go home!"

"Your right to assembly is not being denied," the police said later over a loudspeaker.

Combat forces on America’s streets and accepted as a necessity is not an indicator that we are an exceptional nation of liberty-loving people.

We have become either one of two things, or a combination of them:

We are now as Franklin warned, a “people become more corrupt and vicious- that they have more need of masters” - in which case acceptance of a Police State negates the claim we are still an exception in the world because society itself has become wicked.

Or,

We have already devolved into the same oppressive state that the rest of the world has known, and we simply refuse to acknowledge it while growing comfortable with living under it.

Armed combat troops accepted as local law enforcement is not evidence of an exceptional people who love liberty. It is evidence we are become no different than the rest of the world and are willful subjects to the state rather than sovereign individuals.

The looting and rioting were wrong and wouldn't happen with tea party crowds. That isn't up for debate, IMHO. I can only speak for myself, but here's how I view the excessive show of force in Ferguson.

“It’s like the boiling frog,” Snowden tells me. “You get exposed to a little bit of evil, a little bit of rule-breaking, a little bit of dishonesty, a little bit of deceptiveness, a little bit of disservice to the public interest, and you can brush it off, you can come to justify it. But if you do that, it creates a slippery slope that just increases over time, and by the time you’ve been in 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, you’ve seen it all and it doesn’t shock you. And so you see it as normal. And that’s the problem,

I don’t think this incident or incidents define us but they are an indication of where we’re headed. This can be reversed and/or states like Texas could decide enough is enough and begin cutting off federal funds.

It’s not over until the fat lady sings, but she’s definitely warming up.

The looting and rioting were wrong and wouldn't happen with tea party crowds.

Irrelevant. The demonization of the Tea Party by both the current regime AND the GOP leadership was a calculated tactic done for the purpose of conditioning the country to accept what is intended to be done to us.

How often and by how many means has the meme that the Tea Party is a threat to the security of the nation and people's rights has been spewed by the current government and it's media?

History teaches that whenever a government or ruling class of a society demonize a specific group - that group will eventually be eliminated by methods political, judicial and physical. There is no exception in history to this.

It doesn't matter that those groups are peaceful and pose no physical threat to society - a people conditioned to believe such groups are a threat will believe whatever the State tells them as the justification for whatever actions the state takes against those groups targeted.

We are already sliding down that slippery slope at speeds that truly frighten.

Depends if Texas sees their liberty as more important than funding. If more than half the country is on government subsidy of some kind - money talks and Principles mean nothing, so weaning itself off the Federal teat might not be as simple as assumed.

I see that with farmers out here. They talk freedom, but the moment someone suggests they stop taking federal money to avoid the government strings that come attached with it - they get real pissed off real quick.

Federal funding is the heart of the issue.

Haven’t seen the movie, but if it’s at all accurate, “The Giver” should show this.

It’s irrelevant to you and me. Others seem to think that any objection to the excessive show of force is an explicit endorsement of the looting and rioting.

Geez - the pretend sojer has only got an automatic weapon to cover his platoon.

How's come they didn't bring The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch? One never knows what's lurking in those SHRUBBERIES.

If the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog makes an appearance, the pretend sojer with the machine gun might soil his kevlar underwear...

I have no problem with police stopping looting and rioting.

I have a problem with a militarized Security Force better armed and equipped than combat troops in Iraq and a wider latitude of ROE who are armed with MRAPs, tanks and MP4 machine guns pointed at American civilians- even if they are a riotous bunch.

There was a time when water canons, batons, side arms and shields were plenty sufficient to subdue unruly crowds in the past.

Cops in military camp fatigues astride military hardware and sighting in civilians with high powered mounted weaponry IS NOT something we should tolerate in America.

THAT is what I have a problem with and so should you if you never want to see that hardware and equipment turned on you one day soon.

Because it will be.

Has it been lost on Mr. Sharpton, that while ‘his people’ are being tear gassed and shot, the brown people coming across the border in Texas are getting pamphlets, fruit baskets, and court dates for their ICE hearing that are 10 years out?

We actually agree. I am NOT “disputing” the premise that the USA is actually exceptional and very special. But you declared no official action against citizens had ever happened, and technically you are wrong. That is all.

But indeed it is nothing compared to any other place, and indeed the vast majority of the world past and present. I despise liberal commies that act as if we are the worst, and other are so much better, giving even modern Moslem thugs benefit of the doubt while are dead Founders are forever kicked in the butt for “allowing slavery” to go on (Sarah Heart-Burn impression) and “being unfair to so-called Native Americans” and brandished as evil.

No I didn't. I don't know where you got that. Maybe someone else's post.

I have simply been saying that this place is different that most places throughout the sad history of man's oppression of man.
