This essay offers a psychological explanation for the unnerving (but not all that surprising) conclusion in a recent study, "Who Rules America," posted here that those in the government will not listen to ordinary citizens, that it's the elite who rule.

So is this couintry a democracy or perhaps a plutocracy these day? Certainly not the republic envisioned and created by the founders.

The American founders were aware of human nature and they understood the tendency towards tyrants securing public offices, positions of power. This is why the Founders worked so hard to craft a self- regulating system of governance (complete with just about every “ check and balance “ they could devise) — and then to both limit the federal govt’s powers ( to 18 enumerated activities) and on top of it all, to attach a Bill of Rights to further protect the individual citizen. It’s a real shame the Current regime has such contempt for our “exceptional” American Constitution. It was certainly the best effort in human history to craft a nation where the govt served the citizen, and not the other way around.

Ah geez. If you understand that politicians are already bought, paid for and sold into slavery; you don’t understand anything. By their greed for money and power they only owe allegiance to their masters. The American people are not slaves; they are free.

So now it is time to get up off your ass and unite to do something about it instead of blathering away about our woes.

A good restatement of the Iron Rule of Oligarchy.

As long as we have some semblance of property rights and can continue to own the means to defend ourselves we are at least better off that those who rule under more despotic oligarchs.

Big difference between liberal elites ( the John Kerry types) and conservative elites who got their money the old fashioned way - by WORKING for it.

That said I trust our somewhat flawed election process a million times more than a system where ‘philosopher kings’ lead or choose those who will lead. That tends to devolve into the powerful taking care of themselves. And only themselves...
