California Supreme Court Blocks Citizens United Measure From Ballot

State Supreme Court asks for more time to decide validity of non-binding measure on Citizens United The court's order effectively prevents Prop. 49 from appearing on Nov. ballot, both sides say

The California Supreme Court on Monday halted state action on a non-binding ballot measure seeking voter opinion about a landmark U.S. Supreme Court campaign finance decision known as Citizens United, a move supporters and opponents agree will remove the measure from the November ballot.

Activists with the group 99Rise gathered in the Assembly chambers in June to show their support for a bill placing a nonbinding advisory measure about Citizens United on the November ballot. (Rich Pedroncelli / Associated Press) The court ordered Secretary of State Debra Bowen to hold off placing the measure on the ballot pending court review. The measure, which asks Californians if Congress should overturn the landmark U.S. Supreme Court campaign finance decision, would have no binding legal effect, even if approved by the voters.

Opponents argued the measure is not valid because it would not change state law.

Just commission a Field Poll.

Why litter the ballot with this nonsense?

The rat Chinese-American state senator wanted to gauge California’s opinion on the Citizens United case by placing it on the ballot and this way hope to pressure the state Congressional delegation to support legislation that would cut off the edges of the Citizens United case.

I’m good with overturning Citizens United and abolishing all corporate taxes. No taxation without representation. Going to bet that won’t fly with the unions.

Removing it from the ballot was a waste of effort, and actually makes it look like it was more important than it was. Had it remained on the ballot, the coming months could have been spent mocking it and the jokers behind the ridiculous piece of agitprop, pointing out what empty-headed power-crazed buffoons they are, and that would pay off some at the ballot box. Instead, its removal will result in calls to replace the justices and two more years of nonsense from the trust-fund leftists.
