New agreement for thousands of US troops to train in Australia

AUSTRALIA and the United States will sign a landmark agreement in Sydney today to allow American forces greater access to Australian bases and facilities.

The annual AUSMIN talks will include a signing ceremony for a new Force Posture Agreement that will see 2500 US Marines and dozens of US war planes and warships exercising and replenishing at Australian ranges and bases in the Northern Territory and at HMAS Stirling near Perth.

The talks will also open the way for Australia to become part of America’s global ballistic missile shield and will focus on the rising tide of Islamic militancy in Iraq and Syria, the Ukraine and Afghanistan.

I live in Canberra so I’m in the same boat except Melbourne is a lot warmer than here right now.

I went to Perth a couple of times, due to the lobstah business I was in...my last trip happened to have me arrive on Australia Day - my room at the Duxton was Swan River front facing and I got to enjoy a helluva a great air show followed by fireworks.

An Army friend of mine was joking that we could do strategic bombing using a C-17 dropping tonnes of funnel web spiders out the back. I told him it was a dumb idea. There's not an aircrew alive with the b_lls to get into a plane with several million funnel webs and just the process of catching that many would kill more people than Communism.
