The Ebola virus that has killed scores of people in Guinea this year is a new strain — evidence that the disease did not spread there from outbreaks in some other African nations, scientists report.
"The source of the virus is still not known," but it was not imported from nearby countries, said Dr. Stephan Gunther of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, Germany.
He led an international team of researchers who studied the genetics of the virus and reported results online Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

You have to wonder if various reports are true someone has been playing God with what was already a honorific virus?

In other words, one single initial case is responsible for this entire outbreak. How this one case came about is something that one may speculate on.
What’s the point of quoting fiction here?
Just read Hot Zone this weekend. People have no idea. Guess they think that the promise of planet wiping plagues mentioned in Bible in Revelation was an empty promise or a joke. I remain astounded at people who refuse to believe anything bad can happen here in AMERICA.

Everybody keeps talking about this possibly being weaponized.
The very bottom line:
You don’t need to. It is weaponized all by itself.
If you REALLY WANTED to weaponize this, then you need all three of the following BEFORE you field test it:
1. Antidote
2. Vaccine
3. Agent
You need these things because you have to ensure that when you deploy it, it isn’t going to come back and kill you too.
This is why bioweapons are such a bad idea anyway - it is SO difficult to make sure whatever you create actually stops killing people when you want it to.
Also, to deploy it, you have embarked on a policy of genocide aforethought. Ebola kills across age groups, across genders, across races, across blood types, across ethnic groups, etc.
A good bioweapon kills all Russians, for example, but leaves your spies alone. Or it kills all fundamentalists muslims, but leaves the moderate ones alone.
It’s just tough to do. This is why most warfare today is ECONOMIC.

Makes me wonder if this serum has been around for a while, kept as a secret antidote. The infected guy knows it exists and says, “Bring me home and cure me or I will go public that you have the serum under wraps’.
Now, it is undergoing testing for general use, as the cat is out of the bag.
