Shoot to kill, that’s brilliant...take a virus that hides out in every bodily fluid and spray a whole bunch of fluid and tissue around!

Killing someone to prevent them spreading it is frankly perfectly logical and sensible, but the bloodiest method possible is not.

I would not expect brilliant, or even very effective solutions to the problem of a combative Ebola patient who breaks out of quarantine.

If police are charged with enforcing an Ebola quarantine line, they are unlikely to wrestle a combative patient to the ground and handcuff them.

How do you suppose Patrick Sawyer really died after fighting with the terrified hospital staff in Lagos? Quite possibly the on-duty security guard shot him.

BTW, Eight of the hospital staff who dealt with Patrick Sawyer have contracted Ebola, two have died. One of the ground crew who helped Mr. Sawyer off the plane has also died from Ebola.

Yes - I expect that police guarding Ebola quarantine patients will have shoot-to-kill orders in the event that the patient forcibly attempts to leave.
