The famed aircraft carrier USS Constellation set forth on its last voyage Friday, but this time towed by the ocean-going tugboat Corbin Foss. The 1,008-foot Constellations 16,000-mile journey from Bremerton will take the carrier around the southern tip of South America to Brownsville, Texas, where it is set to be scrapped.

This is so sad :-(
I wish there were funds to create a floating museum out of this noble vessel.

Unfortunately, none of the Kitty Hawk class of carriers has been adopted to be a museum. We are fortunate to live near enough to Alameda, CA, to enjoy the USS Hornet, CV-12, museum ship. Here is a
Wiki list of all the carriers in the US Navy inventory, past and present.

Anyone ever wonder where that scrap will be sold and to what country it will be shipped? My guess China would gobble that steel up quickly.

What is that destroyer in the photo?
As near as I can make out, the hull number is DD-744 or DD-754. That would be respectively, the USS Blue or Frank E. Evans. It is a Sumner class in any event.

I remember my uncle, an ole Sarge, wondering the same thing before WWII. Then we found out the scrap metal we had been sending to Japan, came back to our troops.
