The McD’s in our area have been running a ‘promotion’ the last couple of months. If you do an online survey, you get a code to put on your cash register ticket for a ‘buy one, get one free’ on either an Egg McMuffin or Quarter Pounder with cheese. Since just a QP is over $4 ( as of July 1, we now also have a 5% local meals tax which runs up the price), I don’t even use the promos. For $4+, I can get a bigger bang for the buck at the grocery store. As an example, $4+ is half the cost of a bag of 12 frozen hamburgers or almost the cost of a pound of fresh hamburger. Sure, McD’s is fast food ‘convenience’, but the value for the money/convenience just isn’t there for me any more.
As for that local 5% that is now getting tacked to any ‘prepared’ meals (and a lot of other things it shouldn’t be added to since many cash registers can’t handle the complexity), as a matter of principle I avoid it if I can by slipping over the county line to do my shopping. If I were to eat at McD’s, there is a new one just across the county line as well. The neighboring counties are advertising “we don’t have a meals tax” which I just love seeing. The Rat B’s here said if they didn’t have the 5% meals tax, they’d have to up property taxes (rate) because they needed it for the “children” (schools - fancy ones at that). SO, the next property tax bill after the meals tax passed was TWICE the one before .... no, they didn’t raise rates, but they majorly jacked up the assessments.
Where do you live? I don’t want to move there by accident.
I buy ground chuck for 3.48 a pound, five pounds at a time, divide it up in freezer bags and use em one at a time on the grill. Sam’s Club. Angus, 90% lean.
Sounds like your area is ripe for revolt.
