United States officials are closely monitoring a potential humanitarian catastrophe in northern Iraq but will not be sending combat troops back into the country, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday.
Earnest said the United States would cooperate with Iraqi military and Kurdish authorities in the volatile region, but he declined to respond to several questions about whether the U.S. would consider any military action to protect refugees fleeing advancing Sunni militants.
Im not in position to shed light on the presidents thinking on the subject, Earnest said.

“Weighing” the situation” - sort of tells you how much he thinks genocide is a serious thing.
I’m “weighing” becoming a multi-millionaire, taking a second wife, entering the Mr. Universe contest and learning German.
But the war on terror is over...ever since Obammy killed Bin Laden!!!!?????
He’s been ‘weighing’ options for many weeks concerning Islamic State. It’s only that the humanitarian crisis caused by Obama’s previous failures has now made Iraq an embarrassment because more will notice now.
Obastard will go and play golf, nothing more.
He may pay some lip service to doing something bu in the end he will do nothing.
Watching the news reports about the disaster in Iraq, today I am ashamed. We will witness tens of thousands of Christians butchered while Obama “considers his options....”. Damn you Obama, damn you.
Edward Hamley speaking of Marshal Bezaine during the
Franco-Prussian war...
The anxiety of the temporizing mind which prefers
postponement of a crisis to vigorous action.
Sure sounds like Obama to me.
He’s going to air drop a collection of his speeches on Beta-Max to boost the morale of the victims.
Plus, there is no imminent threat to the United States??? Don’t we need WMD stock piles to conduct this illegal war for oil???!!
This is a good example of leading from behind. ISIS despite routing Christians and other minorities from poorly defended areas is very vulnerable. They are dangerously overextended. Their rear is being harassed by Hezbollah, the Syrians and the Lebanese military. They are facing resistance from tough Kurds on their flank. Their offensive has stalled outside of Baghdad. The Russians and Iranians are providing military aid, logistical support and training to the Iraqi army which has been reinforced by Shi’ite volunteers. Although they have captured large amounts of arms and ammunition, they have no secure outside supply lines. The Saudis have come to perceive them as a threat to the Saudi royals and have cut funding. It would appear that a counterattack is imminent. The Russians in particular wish to slaughter as many jihadists from Chechnya ( who are the most cruel and effective jihadists) as possible in Iraq before they return to Russia. Obama will probably commit American air support if a counterattack does occur and looks successful. It is probably better if he does nothing and let’s the locals deal with these cruel , bizarre jihadists.
Once again he is horribly slow to decide to do something timid and ineffective. Christians and other minorities have been massacred in Syria and Iraq by forces of pure evil. ISIS has the literal commands of the Koran behind them and the support of Muslims from Europe to Indonesia to America. Eventually they must be stopped and I’m not sure that anyone is willing.

I am hoping to start hearing more republicans screaming from the rooftops. They need to be putting a lot of pressure on Hussein Obama to do something.
“Weighing” “Considering”, blah blah blah.. As though this is as good as it gets with Obama in lieu of ACTUALLY MAKING A DECISION. We never heard this kind of update when Bush was president.
Someone ought to tell Zero that the Yazidis are considered to be devil worshippers, so it is his duty to defend them.
Obama “contemplates” quite a lot.
While he thinks things over, those people stranded on that mountain top haven’t had food or water for a week. If he thinks just a day or so longer, he won’t have to worry about it any more at all.
“While he thinks things over, those people stranded on that mountain top havent had food or water for a week. If he thinks just a day or so longer, he wont have to worry about it any more at all.”
unfortunately i think that’s the point...
he doesn’t want to do anything because action in iraq would put an exclamation mark on his previous failure there
he doesn’t care about the victims in this case
so he “weighs” his actions until it’s too late...
