Benghazi probe presses ahead despite new report

The GOP-led House Select Committee on the Benghazi terror attack shows no sign of backing down despite a report from another congressional panel that, according to a top Democrat, found no intelligence failures around the deadly 2012 assault.

"There is more work to be done and more to be investigated," a spokeswoman for House Select Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy told CNN on Wednesday.

Shortly before beginning its August recess, the House Intelligence Committee, also led by Republicans, approved its report on the militant attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in eastern Libya that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

"Our investigation found the intelligence community warned about an increased threat environment, but did not have specific tactical warning of an attack before it happened," Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the senior Democrat on the intelligence panel, said in a statement after its vote.

Ruppersberger said the finding is "consistent with testimony that the attacks appeared to be opportunistic."

Gowdy has said repeatedly that the House Select Committee will review what other congressional committees have found, but also seek testimony from those who haven’t done so yet.

Gowdy told his hometown newspaper, the Greenville News, “witnesses who were previously unavailable or not interested in cooperating are now interested in cooperating.” He added that “the universe of witnesses is expanding.”

Gowdy also indicated that the Select Committee would hold its first public hearing in September to hear how the State Department is carrying out new efforts on diplomatic security.

Since the conclusion is that the administration didn’t MEAN TO lie when they spun that bunk about a youtube video, it can be disregarded.

Democrats never read the Obamacare bill, why should anyone read this story that likely as retrofictioned as Obama’s own autobiographies.

It’s a “wording” thing that the newspaper is trying to do:

No, there were no Intel failures. There were, however, gross failures in procedure and leadership that led to deaths of US citizens.

Those failures have never been questioned nor properly exposed. In fact, they were covered up.

This newspaper is disgusting because our less analytical Democrat voters will now spend my lunch telling me that there were no failures what-so-ever and that this “Gowdy thing” is just a witch hunt. And the newspaper is doing this on purpose to divide America and objuscate.

Ummm, CNN, if there was no intelligence failure that implies that they knew about this attack and did nothing. Why then should the investigation be terminated.

The issue is less about intel failures than the despicable actions/non-actions of this administration as the events were unfolding.

But even the dems understand that... thus the attempt to distract with this “report.”

... according to a top Democrat ...

But we haven't seen the whole report yet ... and likely never will ...

Keep in mind that the report is now under review by seventeen other government agencies that make up our intelligence community, according to Politico. The heads of those agencies will decide if the report should be declassified.

CNN is so disappointed. They wanted a coverup, but all they got was a Trey Gowdy T-shirt.

So.. knowing of an increased threat, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama left the U.S. Ambassador and his staff in a known hotbed of terrorism instead of having them return to the relatively secure confines of the AmEmb in Tripoli...on the anniversary of 9/11.. unguarded.. with no military assets nearby in the event of trouble.

What in the blue ***k were these people doing in Benghazi when they should've been in Tripoli???

Terrorists and Advancing armies seldom provide "sprecific tactical warnings".

The Committee's conclusions were based on the testimonies of Obama Administration insiders who were executing a coordinated cover up.

It will be interesting to see what information comes to light in a more serious investigation.

If you want to demonstrate a cover up, what better way to do so than to release an official report based on lies and then use that report itself to document the cover up once the report is contradicted by the facts
