Yeah, you’d have to go back to 1964 to the last time the Democrats won that seat. There’s only been 2 members since 1966, the legendary Bill Steiger (who was all of 28 when he won and who died prematurely at just 40), and Petri, who won his seat when Steiger died in a 1979 special.
I’m not familiar with Steiger.
” in 1969 he employed the future Vice President Dick Cheney as an intern.”
Wow.
this is the last time I looked into it.
He was always one of those “What if ?” guys, had they not died early or bombed out career-wise. He was big on championing tax cuts, but he was also more left on social issues. Had he moved rightward on the latter, he might very well have been Presidential material. That combo wouldn’t work today and he wouldn’t be well-regarded (and as I’ve said, you can’t be for both since social leftism requires high taxation).
I don’t really know who is leading, so we’ll find out together tonight who wins. Alas, Wisconsin is another state badly in need of runoffs, since almost no one here will get 50%.
“and Petri, who won his seat when Steiger died in a 1979 special”
You should have seen the special election for Jaggoff Jr’s seat, dozens were killed, it was a bloodbath. ;d
I voted today in the ghost town. I was Voter number 41 at 2pm.
The anti-populism of the CT GOP catches up to them when on days such as today ... they have no active members. Robo-calls yes. Live human beings? No.
where is da live thread for CT WI etc ???
CT LT GOV is a 3-way dogfight.

I vote as soon as the polls open, 6:AM, the polling place is just down the block. I am one of 3 regular GOP voters in my precinct.
Nice song BTW.
