.38 cal loaded with a stiff but not maximum charge, hollow base wadcutters seated backwards, with a gas check over the nose, will produce a shallow but massive wound cavity. This type of round is only accurate at 3-4 meters, but will dump the full energy of the round and create the kind of wound cavity that leads to rapid bleed out.
