The problem being that Russia would sell China one jet engine, one nuclear submarine, one Backfire bomber and then sit back and watch China make their own copies without paying any licensing fees.

All true, but here is a question, what makes Russia allied with China (which is it’s natural enemy) instead of America (while there are no existential reasons to restart a cold war)?
