TUCSON, Ariz. Arizona executioners injected Joseph Rudolph Wood with a lethal combination of drugs 15 times during the nearly two hours it took for him to die, according to documents released Friday.
Records released to Wood's attorneys show he was administered the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone in 50-milligram increments 15 times between 1:53 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., for a total of 750 milligrams of each drug. He was pronounced dead at 3:49 p.m. after gasping more than 600 times while he lay on the table.

Yeah, it was an execution, and he died. Success!
His crime was similarly successful, and no less agonizing... right?
I think the executioner should get overtime pay.
Go back to hanging, electrocution or firing squad, no chemicals involved. If chemicals are desired, the gas chamber works well.
Buying those drugs on the street would probably cost $1000. He was higher than a kite when his heart finally decided to stop ticking. This guy was not in pain.
One injection of lead would have done it
If an execution takes hours, then there are two possibilities resulting from the same cause. Someone purposely mis-mixed the poison. Or, the executioner misplaced the injections. Both to give execution by injection a bad name. I smell leftists behind this.
I would have some compassion for the guy but I used that all up on his murder victims.
It shouldn’t have taken 23 years to execute.
How can you call it botched? The SOB got to live an hour or so longer than he expected.
Nitrogen asphyxia. Works every time.
They could buy heroin off the street..hit him once with it and be done.
Why all the fuss.
or inject him with lead behind the right ear.
SOunds like it worked to me. Was there some sort of deadline that got missed? If not, it was successful.
What was the last botched abortion that made nationwide headlines?
They aren’t that rare.
Abortion Barbie Wendy Davis doesn’t like attention focused on botched abortions. She opposed the legislation in Texas that sought to see to it that women who suffer botched abortions at “safe-legal-&-rare” (TM) abortion clinics are able to be quickly taken to emergency medical centers.
I would think when you are executing someone, overkill is a good thing.
If I had my choice of execution, I think I would choose firing squad.
nothing to it. Flooda chamber wirh pure nitrogen (you breathe 80% now); give it a few minutes, they go to sleep and don’t wake up. A more common industrial accident than should happen.
I’m sure his victims suffered more. This is justice.
Cattle Bolt Gun
There is only one humane standard: Does the punishment fit the crime?
The only thing I would have done different was to inject him 115 times instead of just 15.
