Hearing that turd refer to anyone as “folks” has the same effect on me as fingernails on a blackboard.
Even reading it in a quote makes me cringe.
I’m not sure why.

I feel the same way. Some theories...
(1) It's a precursor to the certain knowledge a lie is about to be uttered.
(2) It's the equivalent in meaning to the German Volk and thus has negative connotations to English speakers.
(3) It's shorthand for 'white folk', as used by him on numerous occasions.
(4) It's just too avuncular by half. It's the verbal equivalent of the 'bunny hands' he performs when descending stairs from a plane.
