My first two years in Germany, I was a Platoon Leader at a composite Chaparral/Towed Vulcan battery. Our battalion's mission was the short range air defense for three NATO air bases: Hahn, Spangdahlem, and Bitburg.

The unit was deactivated at least 15 years ago. The motto for 6/56 ADA is "Night Hides Not", as it was originally a searchlight battalion in WWI.
