On Tuesday, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) suggested that Border Patrol agents were torturing illegal immigrants by making detention centers too cold during the summer.
At a Congressional Progressive Caucus hearing on the border crisis, Schakowsky said she recently visited a detention center in Illinois where "all the kids I talked to at the shelter mentioned the cold."
"Cold has been used as torture in the past. I mean, really," she said. "It just makes no sense that they would, it seems deliberately, be held in really uncomfortable situations."
One immigrant advocate who was testifying said that cold detention centers are a way of "subduing" illegal immigrants.

End the torture!!!!
Move them south, a lot, immediately!!!
They just be pining fer the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts and we best be sendin em on home before the pining be to severe.
It’s probably 74 degrees in the facility and most of them have never seen an air conditioner. They long for the 90 degree weather with 90 percent humidity back home.
Of course if we turn off the air conditioners the dingbat rep will complain about that too.
So Obama is torturing toddlers. WOW
I would suggest that maybe a public building in the middle of summer in Texas might have the air conditioning on.
Oh, and I’d also suggest that this is a good example of why much of central and southern Illinois wouldn’t mind if Cook County just went away.
I wondered how long it would take before some moonbat brought this up.
I recommend they be transported immediately to warmer climes. Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador are quite warm this time of year
Hey kids! We have this thing called “winter” here in Wisconsin that makes those cold detention centers look like hot springs. You wouldn’t want to freeze by coming up here, right?
Just turn off the air conditioner. It’s contributing to global warming anyway.
The kids that have been sent to MA will probably have to be sent to Florida each winter.
.
Schakowsky needs to spend some time with the kids in a hot detention center.
It’s time to show some love and reunite these freeloading invaders with their families in the warm climate of Central America. Stop the torture! Send them home!
there is a reason hospitals are kept cold.
It has to do with infection control. Bacteria like warm, moist environments and cold slows them down. Like a lizard.
I imagine infection control would apply to BP facilities as well as jails.
An uneducated teen from a third-world country probably wouldn’t know that, but he should appreciate people were trying to protect his health.
What you say re: infection control is absolutely true.
And if the a/c were turned up the person would complain that they were being roasted to death.
It has been unseasonably cool. The a/c in our office is still set for 100+ degrees. I almost want to wear long johns to work. So if I never had experienced a/c it would make me think someone was trying to freeze me to death. (I prefer to think they are trying to preserve us.)
Of course, the person that I read about that complained about the cold and probably prompted this whole thing should head south and take his happy rear end home.
El aire acondicionado es muy frío! Me torturas!!
Eso es una muy locura!
The little illegals should have spent last winter here in Maine.
The cold would have froze the tattoos right off of their MS-13 behinds.
They’re just trying to protect them from GLOBAL WARMING!!!
Packed in the way they are, the smell of a hundred hot teenagers would be pretty rank. AC helps keep the smell under control.
This is her clever little way if trying to get you to care about their welfare through personalizing their supposed suffering.
Nothing liberals say is straightforward. Everything is a manipulation - everything is a calculated lie. Forget that at your peril.
