13 years ago Ukraine shot down a Russian Tu-154 over the Black sea with a C-200 (military exercise accident). The shrapnel was found in the victims' bodies, therefore it's pretty easy to find out which weapon has been used. The Dutch have the bosdies already.

Anyway the forensic procedure in the cases like the MH-17 requires all the wreckage to be collected and put together.
