DC Police Chief Lanier just told force not to arrest a person who can legally carry a gun in DC or any state.
As of 6:24 p.m. on July 27, 2014, this is a welcome development. Many have said that the D.C. political establishment will ignore the judges order. This shows that Police Chief Lanier is, at minimum, unwilling to be found in contempt. Notice the broad extent of the order: no arrests for a person who can legally carry a gun in D.C. or any State.

From what I’ve heard so far, A DC resident can carry his/her registered firearm without a permit (Emily Miller, for example).
I’m thinking that if someone has a CCW from out-of-state, they can carry as well.
Either way, Alan Gura is my hero.....again.
It should be noted....the city council is pressing to carry it up one more level and fight it.
Having lived in Arlington (across the river) for three years...I can attest that it’s just not safe for a guy to walk any part of DC’s streets after dark. The cops stay mostly on the west side of DC....Georgetown area, and help to protect those folks. The rest of DC is left to it’s own devices.
Note that this only pertains to property controlled by the District of Columbia, an area of the country in which it is almost impossible to take a step without being subject to the U.S. Park Police force. Their jurisdiction includes all of the roads that lead to the national monuments as well as George Washington Parkway and others. Astute observers will remember how they shut down the all of the national memorials during the (fake) government shutdown. Anyone want to take bets on how THEY would treat someone carrying a firearm? Kathy Lanier gets to sit back and let the Park Police take the heat.
The judge just stayed his own ruling.
Good to be carrying your device....
