DENVER (AP) — Officials at some Denver homeless shelters say the legalization of marijuana has contributed to an increase in the number of younger people living on the city’s streets.

One organization dealing with the increase is Urban Peak, which provides food, shelter and other services to homeless people aged 15 to 24 in Denver and Colorado Springs.

The black market stuff is 1/3 the price of the legal weed. The legal stuff is like craft beer as opposed to canned swill Coors. Illegal weed gets delivered like a pizza. The illegal stuff is just a phone call away.

Mygosh, just when I thought crazyworld can't get crazier. The indigent can get stoned instead get food.

Now they need to legalize meth to combat the munchies.

Great. Then the city and state can spend some of that huge tax windfall that they are getting from the dope sales on extra homeless shelters.

I hope that they weren’t expecting keep all of the tax revenues.

Yup. Riff raff, losers, and general lowlifes from all over the country migrating to Colorado so that they can smoke their pot without prosecution.

Wonderful. We were thinking about sending our son to the college campus just a couple of blocks away from the Arts Center. We’ll be rethinking that.

Our other option was CU Boulder which is a liberal campus plus all of the evils that come with it including drugs.

We can’t win.

Turn a sane, sober, responsible person into a doped up druggie and we get a better citizen? We are a country run by idiots.

A sane sober, responsible person isn't going to become a pothead. Or an alcoholic. Or an opioid abuser.

By definition, these are not the people who become doped up druggies.

As I recall, it is legal to use pot in Colorado. Not mandatory.

If pot were legalized in your state tomorrow, would you go get stoned? I doubt it.

Medical marijuana is legal where I'm at and I have a severe spinal injury (documented with records, a surgery, and everything) and I'm not running out to get a card.

Why? Because I'm a sane, sober, responsible person. Nobody's going to turn me into a druggie.

I agree. A lot of people in this country think if its legal it must be okay. Sheeple are stupid.

Idiots made it legal and of course it will be abused.

The important point here is that when others consume pot recreationally, the rest of us pay.

This happens when you have a large population of indigents.

And how many of those indigents have other issues such as mental problems which might make them a burden to the local resources. Or worse, dangerous.

They come to Colorado because they can buy and smoke pot without a threat of arrest.

We’d like attract a much better type of person. Unfortunately people who smoke pot and do other drugs are not the kind of people we want here.

If a person has a tendency to addiction, genetically or otherwise, it becomes very easy to to succumb to unintended consequences. To some, legal means it’s OK. Since we have over 50% of the voting public vote to elect Obama - TWICE - it is not too much of a stretch for them to say, “what the hell, it’s legal” and disregard the consequences.

“Pot is the reason homeless people from other states are moving to Colorado.”

The article did not say that the entire increase in homeless people was due to people moving to Colorado from other states.

The article is a sloppy rehash of a clearer source article, http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_26216037/legal-pot-blamed-some-influx-homeless-this-summer, that is entirely about people coming from other states.

Some of it is. Some of it is locals choosing to get high all day.

How would homeless shelter staff - the source for the report - know that?
