Wichita police say a 10-month-old baby was left alone in a hot car for two to two and a half hours Thursday afternoon. The girl was found dead at around 6:40 pm in the 1500 block of S. Topeka.
Police say the girl's 29-year-old foster father picked her up from a babysitter at around 4:00 in the afternoon. They returned to the home along with a five-year-old child. Police say, somehow, the child was left behind in the car as the 29-year-old and the 5-year-old went inside.
The foster father's partner, a 26-year-old man who is also a foster parent, was in the backyard when they came home and didn't realize the young girl was not inside.
Police say the two were watching TV when they realized the girl was not in the house. They found the girl unresponsive, brought her inside and called 911.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the home and pronounced the girl dead.
Police took both men in for questioning, then arrested the 29-year-old on one count of Aggravated Child Endangerment. Police expect to present their case to the District Attorney's Office next week.
Police say the girl has lived with the foster parents since last fall, and they were in the process of adopting her. They adopted five and seven year old children. Those two were taken into police protective custody.
Three other foster children live in the home, they are staying with other family members.
Police do not know how hot it was in the car when the girl was found.
Police are tracking down family members before releasing any names.
Yes.
Unintentional?
If parents continue to be off the hook for everything that will murder this society more definitively than Obama and the stupid congress and the invaders together. And more quickly
I am sick to distraction over parents who will NOT DO their jobs
Gays want to have kids for conversation pieces rather than to be real parents. It’s their way of flaunting convention.
There but for the Grace of God go I.
“Gays want to have kids for conversation pieces rather than to be real parents. “
So do an awful lot of other people.
Parents aer not doing their jobs.
Please, We let over a million people off the hook for the deliberate murder of pre-born children every year. They are intentionally killing their own kids.
When a child is left in a car it is 99.9999999999999% of the time accidental. Accidents happen.
You can not legislate against this sort of thing. Best approach is to say a prayer for the child and parent and move on. Punishing offenders will not prevent the next child being killed in this manner.
Distraction is exactly what causes this sort of incident.
Totally on purpose. Every single time. Car seats are big and impossible to ignore as one is driving.
Time to start prosecuting these parents. Do that and these killers will have to think of other ways to kill their children.
I have never forgotten my children were in the car. I have never forgotten my dog was in my car. Some things you make a point not to forget.
The actual amount is around 35 according to kidsincars.com. They are a group who is involved in lobbying the government for ‘funding’ and ‘research’ so I find them to be a bit suspect. According to Law enforcement there are around 10 - 20 of these incidents yearly.
http://www.kidsandcars.org/heatstroke.html#Fact Sheet
For the past ten years it has been pretty constant according to both sets of numbers.
Regardless, they are very rare when you see a population of 310 million.
People die in horrible unintentional accidents all the time. We can not legislate against every variable in society. We already have too many laws and too many bureaucrats all up in our business. The ‘Though ought to be a law” and the ‘Something has to be done crowd’ have created more problems than they could ever begin to solve.
No, it wasn't a school assignment. I hope they don't have such books on a mandatory reading list today. [Though with this crew at the helm you never know.] I do not recall how I came across this book. But I was ready to graduate from the university by 1984, so my psyche could not be severely damaged - not after the course in electrodynamics :-) As matter of fact, some of Kafka's stories (like The Metamorphosis or In the Penal Colony) were far more disturbing; perhaps because I read them earlier.
I commend you for following up. I accept your statistics.
I did not ask for laws. I guess we aren’t as stupid as some people (me included) have thought us to be.
Hooray for us !!
‘I’m sorry but there is NO WAY I would overlook something like that.’
Everyone says that until they actually do.
I am sure that everyone this happens to says the same thing until it actually happens.
After a few minutes in the house, I’d notice.
When I would wake up from a nap or some other event and noticed there was silence, my kid’s location would instantly be queried.
And what is that, like .0000001% of the population?
You forgot to add, NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. And, of course, you should have added that this situation could have nothing whatsoever to do with the gentleman's attitude toward the child he allowed to bake in his hot car. Nothing. No possibility even.
These are after the fact abortions
What if your two year old got into the parked car and shut himself in, unable to get out while you are napping? The incidents of that happening are around half of the causes of the 35 incidents a year.
What if your toddler fell into a bucket you where using to mop the floor. Way more kids drown in buckets every year than in hot cars. Almost as many die falling into the toilet.
Should all these people be treated as criminals. They all showed a form of negligence. Why should they not suffer more punishment than the average person who loses a child.
