Protests in central Budapest remain ongoing since Sunday (20 July), after a controversial monument dedicated to all the victims of Hungarys German occupation was erected during the night of 20 to 21 July, the Hungarian press reports.
The plan to set up the monument for the 70th anniversary of Hungarys Nazi German occupation was announced at the end of last year and was heavily criticized by opposition parties and civil society ever since, contending that it was aimed at distorting the nations role in the Holocaust.

Not to mention that several divisions of the Hungarian army fought for the Germans on the Russian front and elsewhere. There is a fair amount of complicity on the part of Hungary.

WTF? You don’t white wash your history and absolve your society from such unjust actions.
What’s next? Uhm, giving yourself imprimatur and elevating yourselves to the status of a god and declare these inhumane bastards will be given the riches and glory of gawd when they enter heaven?
That is some kind of arrogance, delusion and an insult to humanity.
What would you have them do? Slit their wrists? Were ALL Hungarians complicit? Did NO Hungarians suffer under Nazi occupation?
That’s like asking if no Germans suffered under the Nazi regime. Nobody would claim such a thing.
Slit their wrists? Gee hadn’t thought of that but sure, why not?
So, you say not all Hungarians were complicit?
But, all Hungarians are absolved?
“Not to mention that several divisions of the Hungarian army fought for the Germans on the Russian front and elsewhere. There is a fair amount of complicity on the part of Hungary.”
I wouldn’t include fighting against the Soviet Union as complicity in the murder of Jews; that was Hitler’s position. Countries that didn’t persecute Jews also fought the Soviet Union (Spain, Italy for example) because they feared communist takeovers. The fight against the Soviet Union was joined by most Europeans at the time; they knew what they had done in Spain and Poland, and feared the same fate.
So what will the monuments to the abortion holocaust say?
“”But, all Hungarians are absolved?””
Pretty good straw man. What response are you looking for?
A historically accurate memorial would depict Hungary as a hooker propositioning a German soldier.
None but, you don’t understand Straw Man.
But, wasn’t that your premise originally.
