“If you are Russian, there is already a country for you, called Russia.”
Does the same thing apply to second and third generation Hispanics in America, in your mind???
With all of the propaganda and accusations flying around, it’s easy to forget that many of the rebels, and most of the original ones, were Russians born in Ukraine. It is there home, their “homeland”.
And to forget that it was predicted that the coup would end in civil war, right here on FR, on Jim Robinson’s thread about it, the day after the it happened.
And it is also easy to forget that NONE of this would be happening, had not Obama decided to back the most violent elements of the Maidan protests, as a way of Getting Back at Putin after the Syria Attack Embarrassment, NONE of this would be happening...
-There would still be a Ukrainian flag flying over Crimea.
-The already called for early elections in Ukraine would have already happened.
-There wouldnt be a Civil War.
-There would never have been an innocent civilian plane shot down.
-Thousands now dead would still be alive.
-U.S. Troops wouldnt now be heading for Ukraine as advisors.
The sad fact that many still wont accept is that this whole situation has been caused by Obamas incredible foreign policy failures. Not just one, but MANY, one after another.
(Putin taking advantage of Obama’s blunders shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone). Not just one, but MANY, one after another.
And Obama just keeps upping the ante.
Your “superficial” knowledge of the pre-Maydan period betrays you. Ukraine was going to blow regardless, and Yanukovych did FAR more to fan the flames than anything the US could have dreamt up.
On the other hand, if all outside actors and war materials left Ukraine, the Civil War would be over quickly. Only one side is getting significant assistance at present.
