Less than six weeks before Labor Day, hopes for recovery at the North American summer box office have evaporated. The season is expected to finish down 15 to 20 percent compared with 2013, the worst year-over-year decline in three decades, and revenue will struggle to crack $4 billion, which hasn't happened in eight years. As a result, analysts predict that the full year is facing a deficit of 4 to 5 percent.
When you say Hollywood I’m guessing you mean all American movies and probably films from other countries as well?
GOOD point. That’s where they are really making their money. The U.S. box office, while important, just doesn’t make or break a movie like it used to. And you are correct, mainland China is a goldmine for Hollywood.
I have no real problem separating Hollywood from a lot of it’s LibTard stars. Hollywood is owned by major corporations. The LibTards are just the employees. ; )
Saw the first one on a recommendation, didn't expect much, and thought it was a 'hoot'. Second one was pretty much in the same vein. I expect this too present what's advertised, and that would be fine.
If I have time, I'd like to get to the new Planet of the Apes movie, but other than that, what's even out right now?
Roku 3!
Defund Hollywood and Cable TV at the same time.
After 10 years happy with DirectTV, I will NEVER go back.
We go to roughly one movie every few years. The last one was Avatar in 3D Imax. Not bad in that format. That was also several years ago.
But when you have a blue ray player, a fairly large flat screen and good sound system - and since we don’t have cable or broadcast tv we don’t see ads for movies - why go to a theater? Seriously.
Also, we can rent for free from the library now and they have thousands of movies avilable.
We only saw two movies this summer. Grand Budapest Hotel which was all right but kind of over-rated and Godzilla, which could really have used a script and some actors. There’s nothing out there anybody with an IQ above room temperature would pay to see. Tammy? Sex Tape? Giant robots? Geez.
They aren’t floundering. Profits are up BIG TIME. This is gross, not net. There just weren’t the blockbusters this year like last. Sometimes you get something like an Avatar which skews the numbers. It’s all about profit and not so much about gross.
My opinion exactly. Hollywood hates middle America. It is time to starve all the perverts and filth in Hollywood.
Another factor is that the novelty of 3-D versions of movies has worn off. With their higher margins from higher ticket prices they drove a big part of the increased box offices in past years.
I have a preteen son. Last couple Summers we saw a LOT of 3-D movies. Now we’re back to standard 2-D (might see Guardians of the Galaxy in 3-D, but it’ll be the only one this year) for the movies we previously would have seen in 3-D, I’ve noticed that the theaters for 2-D are increasingly crowded.
I LOVE the Roku!!
The only thing I don’t like about DirectTV is the iffy cable speed. I stream a lot and a lot in HD and have some friends that have has some problems with it I hate TWC but I get 100mbs download. How do you find your DirectTV cable speed?
Good.
All fag all the time does not sell tickets.
Also, in the 21st century, going to a theater to see a movie is like going to a phone booth to make a call.
LOL!!
They make more money on movies overseas now than from the US.
> Time for the floundering studios to cut overpaid performers at least 50%. Its high time the Leftist Hollywood crowd gets to feel the pangs of the Obama economy.
They can do better that - Obamisize them and only pay them 10 %. He’ll even Angelina Jolie thinks he’s a snake. Proves she’s smarter than her DemRat husband, Brad Pitt.
Movies today are generally trash and leftist propaganda.
And all f-word all the time doesn’t either.
movies?? LOL- except for taking my 11YO daughter to an occasional Disney movie, I’ve not been to a theater since 2000...
