When I was a small child, one of the most dramatic and effective business boycotts in the history of America occurred. This, of course, was the Montgomery bus boycott. By refusing to ride the bus, blacks who were being discriminated against were able to terminate many discriminatory practices not only in Alabama but also throughout the South. The white-owned businesses were clearly being unfair, and the public transportation system was no better. The actions taken were appropriate and in many cases heroic.
The power of the purse, particularly in a capitalistic society, is mighty, and business boycotts are a potent tool in the hands of the masses to enforce economic and social fairness. Through the use of the ballot and the wallet, we the people have life-or-death power over virtually every aspect of our nation.

Astute businesspeople generally do not make their political views widely known, because they realize that about half of their customers agree with them and half do not. There is no need to unnecessarily create animosity, especially when you are trying to sell products. In the case of Costco, a company highly respected for wise business practices, Jim Sinegal, the co-founder and former CEO, has made no secret of his profound admiration for President Obama and his policies.
For the sake of disclosure, I should reveal that I have been a member of the Costco board of directors for 15 years. On the board are people of several political persuasions, and we are all

A “failure” that paid her 14 million dollars, which she “donated” to the Clinton Foundation.
NICE !
Blah,blah,blah,blah.......................
.........No, I don’t buy it.
yes, naive is the word I would use.
Is Hillary’s book still front and center?
The funny thing is yesterday I was at Costco and the sign below price tag for D’Souza book said “limit 5”.
Strange for a book that isn’t selling well.
Dr Carson gives Costco way too much credit.
He shouldn’t be so naive. I think he’s wrong here.
The head of Costco is a new order Progressive.
He and his ilk very much will do whatever helps their side, bottom line be damned.
Under this Administration and todays liberals, that is probably a prudent thing to do.
There’s a lot of rocks laying around ... just in my yard alone, as I look out the window. You’re going to be mighty busy ... LOL ...
A book retailer’s job is to anticipate what books will sell given various cultural drivers. Golf is surging in popularity? Put out some golf books for sale. Some TV chef’s show is a hit? Get that guy’s recipe book in stock.
Another huge sales driver in the book world is the release of a movie-based-on-the-book, or the book-based-on-a-movie.
“Fifty Shades of Grey” will be back on the shelf at Costco as soon as the movie is released... with a picture of the actors on the cover. Count on it.
To suggest that the Costco book retailing professionals had no idea D’Souza’s movie was about to be released is laughable.
The CEO didn’t like it and had it pulled. To hide behind someone with the credentials of Dr. Carson stinks to high heaven, and makes the whole incident even more eye-rolling to conservatives.
And Dr. Carson? You’re so wise about so many things... except when the company of the board you sit on is lying to your face. Wake up and smell the dollar-fifty hot dog/soda combo.
