A top National Guard general says most of the 1,000 troops heading to South Texas will take up observation positions along the border and detain people only if they interfere with their mission.
Texas Adjutant General John Nichols told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the troops will help deter illicit traffic amid a record spike of unaccompanied minors crossing the border. Republican Gov. Rick Perry announced the Guard's involvement Monday.

Nothing short of turning them back at the border will work. Yep. How much Texas taxpayer money was just spent on the equivalent of 1,000 UN Observers?

That's exactly what I was afraid would happen.
Observe. No mandate to actually do anything.

What is the point except drain our treasury? The point, best I can tell, is to fool the masses into believing Rick Perry actually opposes the ILLEGAL invasion and is attempting to do something about it. From some of the comments I have read in this forum, it has, at least to some degree, been effective.

I guess they are going to put them down there with binoculars instead of weapons. The Border Patrol has already been neutered with orders not to fire their weapons because they will be receiving no more ammo. Just wait till a drug gang ambushes and kills some of the Guard observers. That’s going to go over real well. Is there anyone in a leadership position who has a brain?
To: cripplecreek
Nothing short of turning them back at the border will work.Absolutely. But that's not going to happen as it would be considered politically incorrect. So the invasion continues with an added cost of observers.

I knew it! Perry is a fraud! He’s just wasting the good citizens of Texas hard-earned tax dollars.

Yep, me too. I was initially thrilled to see the headline, but within 15 seconds I thought... bet they have no authority, no guns, no nothing.
Utter shame. And this is TEXAS! Aren’t they supposed to show the rest of us how it’s done?

If it’s just for appearances and the NG are neutered, maybe they could just stuff 1000 straw soldiers and hang a uniform on them, like they did in the film, The Patriot.

I knew it! Perry is a fraud!Of course he is. He uttered this gem regarding ILLEGAL alien children back in 2001, and I have seen no credible evidence that his thinking has changed. Note, he called ILLEGAL aliens "Texans".
To punish these young Texans for their parents` actions is not what America has always been about. ~Texas Governor, Rick Perry

I would be happy if they just stopped and/or prevented ILLEGAL entry into our country. Repel the invasion! Anything less is a joke...an expensive joke.
