The only barrier standing in the way of another shameful broken treaty with our Native Americans is the U.S. Congress.
The federal government is planning to take the South Unit of Badlands National Park and turn it over to the Department of the Interior, to have it administered by the National Park Service. The NPS was in the news last year when they barricaded our national monuments and prevented elderly WWII veterans from seeing their memorial during the sequester. The NPS put up barriers along scenic look-outs so drivers couldnt see Mt. Rushmore, and closed park entrances across the country. These brown-shirted federal agents now intend to take and control thousands of acres of Sioux land.
This intended seizure by the Obama administration reads like something out of the history books, and not the part that makes you want to wave the American flag:
Thousands of tribe members will be affected by the land-grab. Some residents will be forced to relocate, and many more others will lose their income from grazing allotments on the land a result which will ultimately force any remaining independent cattle ranchers out of business. In addition to all this, Tribal members will lose their share [of] income from entrance fees collected at the adjacent North Gate fees of the Badlands National Park a punitive measure which will further compound the existing economic depression on a reservation where the average annual income is around $8,000 per year.
The Black Hills once belonged to the Lakota Sioux in a treaty signed by the U.S. government. These sacred lands were taken from them in 1877 after gold was discovered there by an expedition led by General George Custer. This shameful act by the U.S. government can be somewhat explained away by the history of the times, when a fierce war raged between Native Americans and new settlers and bigotry about the rights of non-whites ruled the day.
What excuse does the Obama administration have for their actions today? And if Congress passes this bill, what excuse will they give to the voters who put them in office?
Heres a petition. Heres your representative. The Obama administration shouldn’t get away with acting like a 19th century thug and the U.S. Congress shouldn’t allow it to. The Lakota Sioux deserve better. We all do.

They don’t have much left, compared to the original treaties.
Keep it up Barry, just keep it up.
When has Congress ever stopped Obama from doing something?
OOooooo time to get the popcorn....
Back in the 40’s, .Gov took parts of the land and used it as a bombing range. Leftover bombs are still in the ground there.
Here’s hoping the Souix go Full Stone Age on ‘em, complete with scalpings.
It would help my anger meter to read at the full blown level IF I knew WHY the Obama Administration was breaking said treaty, and confiscating the land.
I did not see that little tidbit in the article. I guess I’ll have to search to find more on this.
“So now he’s Andrew Jackson!” (in my best Henny Youngman voice)
Obama-the-Undocumented will fill it with Islamic terrorists
and have them weaponize new diseases to “share”
with his OWNED other 57 States.
The EXEMPT in Congress will do nothing, of course,
as before, because native American Indians
are not Islamic terrorists and they like America
unlike Obama and the EXEMPT, selfserving hated Congress.
The Lakota claim the Black Hills, but the fact is, they pushed the Cheyenne off that land and took it from them in the latter part of the 18th century. They have less of a claim to that land than white men.
Very interesting ...
US gets bad PR from violating treaties, already.
Liberals/Commies/etc. generally scream about treaty violations (Native Americans, Racism, Imperialism, etc).
Usually I don’t get too fired up about reservations and treaties — things have kind of settled out, and reached equilibrium. I don’t go with more “Native” rights, but don’t mess with what they do have.
But this is beyond belief. I might almost march with them on this one.
In the new Amerika, private property rights, supposedly protected past promises, and the Constitution are soon to be DOA.
They can fight it and be labeled dangerous extremists.
The only land deals allowed now are those made by people like Harry Reid.
Perhaps the Lakota Sioux could join Boehner and sue Obama.
I can think of some possible reasons and all of them are bad
1. increase government control of land and property
2. power trip / for the heck of it - who will stop them
3. provoke us
Great Black Father speak with forked tongue. Interestingly, Forked Tongue is also the Indian name of TOTUS.
Wait till the Kenyan starts using Eminent domain to seize houses for illegals, then the sh*t will REALLY hit the fan! Congress will really really REALLY do nothing!
LOL! I could just see him flapping his wrist while saying that and then laughing like Paul Lynde.
Most of the treaties with the Indians were never honored by the US Government.
They are otherwise still valid AFAIK.
