Hundreds of Sites Set to Protest Child Migrants, Immigration Reform

Hundreds of U.S. sites are set for anti-immigration demonstrations today and tomorrow, Saturday, July 19. The coordinated protests are being billed as: “The National Day of Protest Against Immigration Reform, Amnesty and Border Surge,” and if you live in a U.S. city, there’s a chance one is happening near you. The protests are organized in partnership with ALIPAC, an anti-immigration organization, and tea party groups. More than 45 are planned to take place across California alone. The Murrieta Border Patrol station, which organizers describe as, the facility “where Americans turned back buses of illegals,” will host protestors as well.

As I reported for in my dispatch from Murrieta, Calif., the city where all these recent protests against child migrants began, the situation is a complex one which draws out folks who consider the recent flows of child refugees a threat to the nation’s identity.

“We have some racists, some bigots in Murrieta. Of course we do,” Rev. Jack Barker of Murrieta’s St. Martha Catholic Church told a crowd of 200 gathered at an evening pro-migrant vigil in front of City Hall last Wednesday, urging the public not to let the angry citizen blockades define the city’s reputation. “But we’re very typical middle America,” Barker said. “We kind of are a microcosm of America in many ways.”

What protestors outside the Border Patrol station voiced is not so much a nostalgia for the past as it is a longing for political control in a rapidly changing social landscape. After all, social upheaval and demographic change is the very history of the U.S. In recent years in Murrieta, that change has been particularly swift. Murrieta is a whiter town than the rest of the state—56 percent of the city’s population is white compared with 40 percent of California’s. But those dynamics are quickly changing.

Catch up on Colorlines’ coverage of the unaccompanied minors crisis. The list of protest locations is available here.

Anytime the American People are put on the hook for higher taxes, sacrificing our own jobs, sharing our resources, schools, and healthcare systems, being over run and over populated and our culture changed radically ..well hell yeah it’s our damn business. ESPECIALLY when our own president is using them as a tool against us and trying to break us financially!!!

Nice job, Comrade writer Julianne!
She uses the term “anti-immigrant” twice immediately to get us ready for words later like “bigots” and so forth,
but neglects to inform the reader that ALIPAC stands for ‘Americans for Legal Immigration’.
The final paragraph’s a real doozy with any fascist, night-riding, Obama-haters opposed to the invasion described as, gee I dunno, malignant dinosaurs, resistant to hope and change, et cetera and so on and the usual last foul drippings.

Knightstown, IN is closest to me. I’ll wear my green and gold Border Patrol cap.
Yeah, screw her and all of ‘em.

Does anyone here speak good Spanish? I’m going to try to go to a protest tomorrow (I WILL go if anyone else is there, but I’m not willing to stand by myself in that particular part of town). Working on slogans for my sign(s). I’m in a lib-dominated area and a heavily Hispanic area (Santa Rosa, CA) so I want signs to make the liberals all sigh and say, “Oooh, are we being *mean* to the children after all?” I was thinking of a double-header: “Stop the Death Train! / Detener “La Bestia”!” But I’m not sure “detener” is really the right word. I don’t want it to sound like I want to put the train in jail .. . just stop it from running. Advice appreciated! Also any other short slogans. This will be from an overpass and drivers only have a few seconds to read it. Thanks!!

I live in a very rural area so there is nothing close to me. But I would be willing to drive to get there. There is one on a freeway overpass near my office. Schedule permitting, I’m going to be there.

It would be “Paramas La Bestia”. Parar means “to stop”. Paramos means “we stop”.

Hi Lurker! I appreciate the reply, but. . . you sure about this? Two different online translators turned this into “Formore the beast.” (I don’t even think “formore” is an English word! LOL!) Looking for something with an imperative feeling, like “Halt” is in English. Thanks!!

Hamas and Democrats: A common thread..

Children being used as human shields for political gains. Employed by Hamas in Gaza and Democrats on our Southern Border. The self professed party of compassion lured these children to the border (and into harm’s way) with an implied promise of amnesty. It all started with the executive order to give a pass to the “Dreamers”.

We all know their mantra,”Yes, but it’s for the children.”

You could say “parada la Bestia”

Parada is the feminine form of “alto” which you would use in the masculine form.

Make sense?

My Spanish was learned working on golf courses and commercial kitchens. So it’s street Spanish mostly Mexican in dialect. Most if it isn’t suited for polite conversation. LOL. Glad I could be of service.
