Getting rid of the tunnels gets rid of the long-term danger to Israel. Israel is being very pro-active here and acting in a "long-range manner".

Sooner or later the idiots will succeed at whatever they’re trying to do. Israel needs to force the UN and the Arab world to find some other place to warehouse the “palestinians”, and that place has to be out of rocket and tunnel range.
