I see quite a few churches here in Maine; they’re all over the place but I’ve heard that statistic, too, about Maine being the least church-going state in the country.

Meanwhile, Maine, Florida and Georgia, per capita, have the highest number of young men and women in the military.

Catholics are a minority here.....there are far more protestant denominations and their churches than Catholic churches.

Collins will probably get back in; she said that she would only serve two terms when she first ran for the Senate, but if she is re-elected in November she will start her fourth term in January. I’m hoping out TEA party governor, Paul LePage, will get re-elected this November. It’s a three-way race with a liberal “independent” running, so I’m hopeful.

Funny you should mention Ellsworth....I live not far from there. It’s still growing, though the lousy economy has slowed or stopped much of the commercial growth since 2008. Ellsworth is the county seat of Hancock county, and the gateway to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, so that probably helps it’s growth. I’ve seen heavy traffic and license plates from all over the U.S. and Canada passing through that town this time of year. The national park and the coastal areas really pack in the summer visitors.

Thanks for the insight about ME, I was geographically near you the week of July 4. Ellsworth had bumper-to-bumper traffic when I passed through there. Wikipedia said only 7 percent of ME is Protestant and 4 percent “conservative” Protestant but 28 percent Catholic. Hence a majority, non-church
