Brooks is not even on the border. To get to Brooks County from the border you would have had to walk across Hidalgo or Starr or both Zapata and Jim Hogg Counties, some 20 or more miles from the Rio Grande.
The Brooks/Hidalgo county line is more than twenty north of the river. They ride to the Encino area then walk around the checkpoint. Three years ago a senora was killed when illegals driven by the coyote, drove into her house while being chased. South of Alice one drove off the wife.of a sandpit and killed seven I believe.
