The people behind the idea missed the deadline for this year’s ballot, but now that they have enough signatures — more than 800,000 — they’ve earned a spot on the 2016 ballot. That’s a presidential election year, of course, which means higher turnout. A lot of Democrats are going to end up weighing in on this at the polls.

As long as they all leave, who cares how many?
I agree if California is successful in making this happen ... the government by the governing would drive another ten miles down the road from being the government by the governed.
The thinking is shallow. It presumes population and economies will remain the same. When a breakup would cause populations to reorganize around new power centers. Silicon Valley would be very rich... Until San Francisco gets greedy enough to milk it dry. Right now a business in Northern California has the same regulatory environment as most any business anywhere else in California. But if a Silicon Valley millionaire can move 45 minutes away to a less liberal area and cut his taxes by half while enjoying the same geographical luxuries and beautiful weather, why wouldn’t he/she?
One of the biggest things keeping California liberal is the sheer mass of Mexican immigrants and poor folks who drown out even reasonable republicans.
I don’ know who proposed the hypothetical California map, but would it split new US House and Senate seats evenly between conservatives and liberals, or would liberals gain an advantage?
I confess to not paying much attention to that story lately. Thank You for bringing back to my attention. Will make an effort to take a look and see if anything new has developed.
Old marxist states:
The State of Californication
State of Confusion
The Rainbow State
Hell
South Moonbeam State
State of Insanity
The Nutty Ninth (US Circuit) State
versus
Freedom State
Sane Taxes State
Free Speech for all State
State of Sanity
The NO PELOSI STATE (criminal trespassers will be shot on sight)
The Legal Residents State
There could be one helluva difference if this referendum passes.
Is there not some danger (opportunity?) that one or more of these states will then try to join Mexico? The southern ones dominated by Hispanic voters?
And would that be good or bad? Three new red states, one new blue state, and ten million fewer Democratic voters?
Priceless. Disneyland and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks can always relocate to Redding or some place.
I think it would be a plus for conservatives. There’s already a Democrat org started up to fight it - “OneCalifornia.” So if it scares the Rats, it’s a good thing.
Besides, the areas are truly different countries. Six seems to be a lot, though, but you can’t just hook up SF and LA - central coast is a whole ‘nother world. So is Sacto, and San Diego ain’t no LA.
Of course, it would be best if the whole issue of Congressional and Electoral votes was openly discussed by the proponants, since everyone knows that’s the bottom line here. That it’s not, doesn’t pass the smell test. So what deals or promises have been made behind the scenes?
10 more Californicating US Senators???????
Here I always thought that 57 state thingy was a slip of then tongue reference to the 57 member states of the Islamic League of nations.
Little to nothing new regarding leland yin yee. Found some video but is unknown if information is correct. Will have to verify the video to see if person saying the information is correct regarding what was spoken on the video.
One good thing is that it would become _very_ difficult for a democrat to ever win enough electoral votes to become President.
yee has pled ‘not guilty’, free on bond pending trial, finished third in a rebid for his seat in the California legislature, but is continuing to receive his salary for his seat in the legislature though the legislature has suspended yee. Don’t want to mislead you so please verify all that I found. Relying on media sources only.
Can anyone imagine 6 Californias with 6 governors, 6 capitols, 6 legislatures, 6 Arnolds, 6 Gerry Browns .... and together sending 12 Senators to Washington DC.
That’s probably why the Dems would fight it ... If they were to get, say, even 8 Senators vs the GOP’s 4, their net gain would be just +2, while the overall House representation would not change significantly. Similarly, the grand total EV’s would stay the same, but their net advantage would drop from 54 now to perhaps +20.
Without the coastal kooks, California is by far the most conservative state.
Just what America needs: 10 more insanely liberal Senators.
Split it up. I will take my chances. 55 winner take all is batshit crazy. Let the moonbats have SF and LA.
