Back in the early 60s my Father worked at Eglin AFB where they were developing the skybolt missile which was essentially the same thing.

This was a joint U.S. British operation and the British had basically put all their eggs in that basket. Out of nowhere Bob McNamara cancelled it leaving the British sort of just hanging.

I can remember their being British officers all over the place at Eglin then suddenly they were all gone.

The Chinese developed some decent shore to ship missiles to clear the Taiwan straits of hostile naval elements in the event of war with ROC. It was an important strategic necessity.They were even given access to an American guidance system during the Clinton administration. Unfortunately they have sold these missiles to Iran which has fortified the narrow shallow Persian Gulf. The gig blue water ships of the US Navy and 10-12,000 brave young American sailors are at grave risk.
