Growing protests over where to shelter immigrant children hits Arizona

Protesters and counterprotesters Tuesday made Arizona the second border state to become a national flashpoint over what to do with the surge of unaccompanied immigrant children entering the country illegally.

Dozens of demonstrators gathered in Oracle, Arizona, about 100 miles north of the Mexican border, where federal officials were expected to send dozens of detained immigrant children for housing.

One protester said his opposition to the transfer wouldn't scare the detained children because "after they've been all the way up through Mexico, I don't think anything is going to frighten them," Eldon Rhodes told CNN Tucson affiliate KVOA.

"I'm protesting the invasion of the United States by people of foreign countries. This is about the sovereignty of our nation," said Rhodes, an Oracle resident.

Reid: Southern border is secure

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday asserted the Southern border is secure despite the massive surge of illegal minors from Central America that has overwhelmed federal agencies.

“The border is secure,” he told reporters after the Senate Democrats’ weekly policy lunch. “[Sen.] Martin Heinrich [D-N.M.] talked to the caucus today. He’s a border state senator. He said he can say without any equivocation the border is secure.”

Reid said lawmakers need to worry less about border security and focus instead on President Obama’s $3.7 billion request to help process the tens of thousands of children from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador who have been apprehended on the border.

I saw we take up a collection and bus a few thousand to Hydes Park in Chicago, Martha’s Vinyard, Palo Alto, and Hollywood/Bel Aire.

I’ve got a suggestion. Teenagers are not “children.”

Just south of Oracle is Tucson...Unfortunately Tucson appears to have a very strong liberal population.

The Arizona Governor has the authority to proclaim an emergency and mobilize all or any part of the state guard or the unorganized militia into service of the state.

Ariz. Const. art. 5, § 3

Ariz. Rev. Stat. § 26-172.
http://www.azleg.state.az.us/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/ars/26/00172.htm&Title=26&DocType=ARS

N.B. Unlike Arizona SB-1070, these do not pertain to immigration but to a proclamation of an emergency and the protection of lives or property.

U.S. Const. art. IV, § 4 mandates the Federal government protect states against Invasion. The Federal government has not performed.

U.S. Const. art. I, § 10 No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.

U.S. Const. amend. X The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

All States retain the right to self defense. The Federal government has refused to provide for the common defense, the prime reason for the Federal government. The States must repel invasion.

There is no reason for Governors to stand by idly when the law supports States 100% and the Federals violate law.

Here is a sample from Cnn”s comment section:

I’m Hispanic with roots in New Mexico going back centuries and I was also BORN A DEMOCRAT, like all Hispanics, and Blacks, and I have a (D), branded on my behind five seconds after being born, as proof. Now a Republican but hard-core Democrats, especially the older generation, HATE ILLEGALS. POLL: “72% of New Mexicans oppose illegals/Obama policy.” Hispanic students are protesting in Santa Fe against illegals. Crimes committed by illegals are unsolved including rapes and murders. Northern NM Hispanics are dealing with heroin addiction from Mexican drug lords. Their anger is like no other. ARE WE RACISTS?

“If you don’t ‘LIKE’ me, you are a RACIST! Learned from Obama.

its about time the hispanic community stood up and explained the impact illegals have on them, starting with the difficulty of getting any of their family here legally. its also time they turned in those members of their community they know to be illegal

I too am an American citizen of Mexican descent, and as a Hispanic female who lived on the Texas-Mexico border for a long time, I can confirm that you are 100% correct. These illegal immigrants are going to bring crime and filth with them wherever they go, and they will NOT be prosecuted for anything. They are parasites who openly laugh at how gullible and stupid Americans are. They not only bite the hand that feeds them, they ridicule and victimize us as well. That’s right, I said WE are the victims here, not them. Let them stay, and our country will begin to look and feel exactly like the countries they left. Truth.

CNN only filmed the side that had the “Buenvenudo’s” signs. They looked like rich hippies. Let’s bill them for the bus ride to those liberal paradises.

Here is an update, according to our radio conservative commentator James T. Harris on 104.1 FM, that there is a head fake going on, Rep. Grijalva (D) is saying that the illegals will be arriving tomorrow rather than today, but he is telling the La Raza protesters, they will be arriving today as planned.
